Now that I have your attention, I'll explain why... The Japanese version has plays on words, puns, jokes, and characterization trends that simply have no English equivalent, and cannot be translated into a similar concept. Many of the characters in FF6 have strange trends in their behaviour (such as Cayenne saying "gozaru" a lot in the original script), but these fine details cannot be translated clearly into English. As you can see, this sets up a bit of a dilemma. Should I do what the original translator did, and bullshit it, or should I try to do something that retains the spirit of the original game? I did the latter whenever possible. There was only one point where I could NOT do this (the infamous THEWORLDISSQUARE puzzle), unfortunately. This translation is accurate in spirit, if not in exact wording and alliteration. The meaning, tone, humor, and concept are all carried over in this translation, but the wording itself is not identical to the Japanese version. It IS as close as I could manage, of course, but you just can't say some things in English that you can in Japanese, and vice versa. The Opera Translation: I don't like translating lyrics from one language to another, as they lose their impact in the process.
